The Allen-Bradley 1768-ENBT is a CompactLogix communication adapter that supports Ethernet protocol. This module is part of the Bulleting 1768 Product family that is compatible for use with CompactLogix 1768-L43 and 1768-L45 Programmable Automation Controllers (PAC). It enables a CompactLogix rack to communicate with devices connected in the Ethernet I/P network. It may be used as communication interface to exchange data between Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, Human Machine Interface (HMI) as well as communicate with partner controllers to implement inter-controller messaging functions.
The 1768-ENBT is supplied with One (1) Ethernet communication interface that support Fast Ethernet communication rate such as 10/100 Mbps with auto-negotiation capability. Connection may be established using a pre-made or custom assembled LAN cable which is typically made of a Cat5 or Cat6 cable and RJ45 connectors on both ends.
The 1768-ENBT is a single slot module that occupies a single slot of the 1768 assembly. It may be used with commercially available ethernet switches or industrial grade ethernet switches such as the Stratix unmanaged and managed switches. It may also communicate with the legacy Allen-Bradley 1336 Drives, PowerFlex Adjustbale Frequency AC Drives, Power Monitoring systems, Bulletin 150 Smart Controller, Motor Starters, Kinetix Servo Drives, ControlLogix automation platform as well as 3rd party devices.
The 1768-ENBT Ethernet communication module supports implementation of Commin Industrial Protocol (CIP) over ethernet wherein up to 64 devices and 32 TCP/IP connections can be established. For a CompactLogix system utilizing 1768-L43 processor. Up to Two (2) 1768-ENBT may be used while up to up to Four (4) 1768-ENBT may be used with 1768-L45 processor.
The recommended precautions prior to the installation and handling of the module include having the users touch a grounded object first in order to discharge themselves, having them wear a static-free wristband, and having them work with the module in a static-free workstation.
The Allen-Bradley 1768-ENBT Ethernet/IP module comes with several status indicators such as link status indicator, an OK status indicator, and a network status indicator. When turning off the power on the Allen-Bradley 1768-ENBT Ethernet/IP module, users need to wait until the lights of the status indicator are turned off. This will help save any project that is still being written to the memory at that mom
